The "Bodhrod" designed by
Cormac Byrne !

The Bodhrod series of Tippers was my solution to a problem!

I always liked the big, fat sound of the ‘hot-rod’ type tippers but was unhappy with the lack of clarity at the top end. I also liked the clear ‘top-end’ sound quality of the slim ebony tippers but again was unhappy with the quality of the bottom end. I wanted a tipper that was capable of doing both! The Bodhrod series was my solution to this problem. By experimenting with different materials and weights I settled on this design which is capable of producing those big warm bass notes but also those tight high pops in the top end. I still play with the very first Bodhrod I ever made. Following much demand from bodhran students and concert goers I decided to team up with a professional designer and produce the Bodhrod series to make these tippers available to the public. The Bodhrod is uniquely designed to fit comfortably between the thumb and fingers and comes with non-slip grip. The tension ring can be easily adjusted to produce just the right level of ‘click’ that you desire.

This ‘Hybrid’ version combines both Ramin and Walnut woods to give a choice of sounds. The Ramin is used in the standard Bodhrod tippers while the Walnut is slightly lighter and produces a sound with more high-end tones.
